Our Story

It all began on New Year's Day of 1966, when the late patriarch of the family, Nicholas Panopoulos landed in Australia to seek a better future.

In 1991, Nicholas and his first-born son Ioannis commenced their common journey in the seafood industry, and Regal Seafoods was established in Elwood, Victoria.

In April 1994, due to strong growth, the company moved to a purpose-built facility in South Melbourne. Soon after, the company also took possession of the adjoining building and fitted a cold store facility.

In 2011, a new fish market was built. We decided to operate a stall in conjunction to the South Melbourne facility. This move enabled our company to transcend from wholesaler to agent whereby we are able to purchase direct from fishermen and fishing vessels from all of Australia. In addition, we have first access to the daily availability of fresh fish, in turn, making us a reliable and trustworthy supplier to the wholesale and retail sectors.

Nicholas Panopoulos was born into a family of olive growers and olive oil producers. Despite his relocation to Australia, his passion for great quality olive oil never waned. As a result, Regal Seafoods commenced importing olive oil from Southern Greece in 2010. During a trip to Greece, Ioannis Panopoulos decided to enhance his late father’s dream by taking over a packing facility in October 2019 in the town of Kyparissia which is in the province of Trifilia, near the well known city of Kalamata. The result has been that this top quality, award-winning Extra Virgin Olive Oil is now being exported to the USA and various European countries as well as Australia.
