Where It Began

It all began on New Year's Day, 1966, when the late patriarch of the family, Nicholas Panopoulos, landed in Australia to seek a better future. In 1991, Nicholas and his first-born son Ioannis commenced their journey in the seafood industry together, and Regal Seafoods was established in Elwood, Victoria.

Growing the Business

In April 1994, strong growth led the company to a purpose-built facility in South Melbourne. Soon after, we took possession of the adjoining building and fitted a cold store facility — giving us the processing and freezer capacity to serve a growing client base across the state.

Our Own Stall at the Market

In 2011, a new fish market was built, and we took the opportunity to operate our own stall alongside the South Melbourne facility. This move let us transcend from wholesaler to agent — buying direct from fishermen and fishing vessels across Australia, with first access to the daily catch. It's what makes us a reliable, trustworthy supplier to both the wholesale and retail sectors.

The Melbourne Seafood Centre is centrally located in Kensington, right in the heart of Melbourne's seafood industry — giving us greater access to product, more informed supply information, and increased storage space, so we can supply our clients with stability, reliability and consistency. From Seafood to Olive Oil

Nicholas Panopoulos was born into a family of olive growers and olive oil producers, and despite his move to Australia, his passion for great quality olive oil never waned. Regal Seafoods began importing olive oil from Southern Greece in 2010. During a trip back to Greece, Ioannis Panopoulos decided to carry on his late father's dream by taking over a packing facility in October 2019, in the town of Kyparissia in the province of Trifilia, near Kalamata. The result is Trifilia — a top quality, award-winning Extra Virgin Olive Oil now exported to the USA, Europe and right here in Australia.
